Apparently Einstein said it first (he called it insanity), “A person can’t keep doing the same things over and over and expect different results.” Makes sense and easy enough to understand. So why would we do it?
If and when we do it, it’s because of the crocodile part of our brain that we inherited from our reptilian ancestors. It’s the subassembly that wants us to remain safe (comfort zone) and keep on keeping on as we’ve been. The part of our brain that holds our visions, desires and goals is elsewhere. While the two are mere inches away from each other, they’re functionally miles apart. They don’t agree and probably don’t care for each other much either.
What to do about this conflict? Acknowledge that it exists, embrace that it’s real and focus on the new results we desire. It’s not really insanity. It’s quite normal but it certainly can stop progress from ever occurring. Just don’t let the crocodile have much of a say in matters.
