The difference between inbound and outbound marketing is a lot like two different patrons at your local Starbucks:
Gentleman #1, though a regular visitor, doesn’t take the time or consideration to get to know people, walks around interrupting and intruding, talks about himself, becomes identified as a bit of a pest in the minds of many and is routinely ignored. That would be like outbound marketing…
The second fellow, also a frequent customer, has developed acquaintances and relationships at the store over time. He typically only talks about himself and offers information or ideas if asked. After a while, people do begin asking him about himself, his life, family and, if relevant, his company. He’s made and nurtures friendships. People now know, like and have grown to trust him. That’s inbound marketing and how it should be because that’s what we like.
If you needed to purchase a product or service, which of these two gentlemen would you consider first? Your comments are always appreciated.
