The gentleman in the picture, a business owner, is pondering what to do about his employee from hell. This particular employee shows up to work everyday but refuses to do anything more than go through the motions. Good money has been paid. Expectations were high, but reasonable, considering the investment. As time passed, the expectations turned into disappointment and soon evolved to apathy. The company has now stopped thinking about it entirely. They’ve given up.
The “employee” we refer to is the company website. That which should be the central marketing hub for the business; where prospective clients go to find out more information about the company, its services (products) and even go so far as to (sales) qualify themselves…Not much of that on this company’s website. Very few come and nobody stays for long. No one calls or Emails after visiting….
Like all other employees from hell, this represents a serious business problem. The good news is that your website can usually be rehabilitated or potentially replaced. Whether new or rehabbed, your website should be properly optimized and then will remain productive (convert), never falling back into old bad habits or other negative behavior. Additionally, all other platforms which augment your website and contribute to marketing (search engines, social media, videos, other content, Email auto signatures, etc.) become more effective. A natural overall energy eventually appears, visitor volume rises, pages viewed and overall time on the site increases. More people call, come and purchase. Almost magically, your online marketing is now working much, much better and doing what was intended all along. Good things begin occurring which should never cease.
Here’s the company’s opportunity to save this employee:
While a website may or may not appeal to the eye, if it doesn’t produce customers, there’s likely problems within it or other elements requiring optimization to be identified and addressed. There can be varying degrees of difficulty involved but website and online marketing performance in general are employees no company should give up on. Once resolved, these resources and platforms will begin functioning properly, performing consistently, 7 x 24 x 365, as anticipated and expected.
A company’s website and its other online marketing media exist to help fulfill top and bottom lines. Not only should they produce, but should also demonstrate constant and never ending improvement.
Never give in to a bad employee. Your company deserves much better!
